The UK’s best-kept mountain secret

Ardgour contains some of the most dramatic and isolated mountain terrain in Scotland. This point-to-point traverse is a journey through “hidden” glens and jagged gneiss peaks, offering constant views over Loch Shiel toward the Atlantic and the Small Isles of Rum and Eigg. We finish by descending into the historic Glenfinnan, where the mountains meet the famous West Highland Line.

Why this route?

While Glencoe and Skye draw the crowds, Ardgour remains a place of profound silence. This specific line—from the Corran Ferry to the Glenfinnan Viaduct—is a masterclass in West Coast mountaineering, requiring “pathless” navigation and offering total immersion.

The journey concludes with one of the most iconic views in Scotland, providing a powerful sense of completion as you transition from the wilderness back to the historic rail line.

Travel & Gear Made Easy

We remove the logistics friction. Overseas and long-distance visitors can arrive with just their personal essentials; we provide the heavy technical gear and coordinate the point-to-point exit.

  • Full Gear Bundles: Vaude, Sea to Summit & Terra Nova kits.
  • Expedition Packs: Pro-grade 60L+ bags included.
  • Symmetry: Start at the ferry, finish at the train station.

The Traverse (3 Days)

Day 1

The Ascent from the Sea

Starting at the Corran Ferry, we climb steeply from sea level into the rugged Ardgour interior. We set our first camp on a high bealach overlooking Loch Linnhe and the Glencoe mountains.

Day 2

The Jagged Interior

A day of pure wilderness across trackless ridges. We traverse the heart of the Ardgour peaks, aiming for a camp with panoramic views over Loch Shiel toward the Atlantic and the Isle of Rum.

Day 3

Descent to the Viaduct

We cross the final high pass before a long descent into Glenfinnan. We emerge at the iconic viaduct, finishing our journey at the historic railway station for the journey home.
