Michael shared his skills and wisdom of the skills needed to keep yourself safer of the hillside: navigation; clothing; scrambling and walking techniques; awareness of potential dangers etc. We had a small group of 4, with various levels of fitness and experience but Michael adapted our time together to fit the needs of the group. My skills and confidence levels have increased greatly - so much so, that I took myself wild camping and a solo days walking. The weather turned and visibility was greatly reduced, but the navigation skills learned the previous days kept me on the paths I had chosen. I would thoroughly recommend peak adventures for mountain skills training.

Apart from a great instructor, Michael was easy company over two days, was happy to answer questions and give advice on matters not strictly on the course content. He was also very flexible and accommodating with regards to circumstances that impacted our ability follow the prescribed programme (in itself, a useful attitude to have in the outdoors!). I will not hesitate to book another course with Peak Adventures, and I am already eyeing the four-day version of the Mountain Skills! Even when you think you know something, it is beneficial to test, gain confidence in and complement such knowledge with experts.

We congregated at a café in Keswick early on the Thursday morning, where we met our guide, Donny. He was an absolutely fantastic tutor, instantly likeable, with a vast amount of knowledge. After a brief introduction our group were up in hills, which is where we spent the majority of our time over the course of the 4 days. It was definitely the best way to learn and practise our new-found skills - and we learnt so much! I really enjoyed this course and I cannot recommend booking with Peak Adventures enough! Donny insists that being a guide isn't his job, it's his hobby... And you can tell! His passion shines through, and you will get so much more from this course than you might think. Thanks Peak Adventures, I'll be booking again in the future!

Donny, our instructor, had so much knowledge and wisdom to share about the landscape and about safety and skills on the mountain. We covered navigation thoroughly, including night navigation on our wild camp (which was epic). Shout out to Donny and Michael, based in Northumberland, UK. A 4 Day hike through all types of terrain - snow, steep rock with granite rocks, interesting flora and fauna, with boggy, marsh land. Who knew that climbing a hill could be both a mental puzzle and a physical marathon? Guess I'm ready for Mount Everest now… or maybe just a nap! Overall: Very positive group dynamics. Everyone felt safe and comfortable. Breathtaking Scottish scenery, showcasing some hidden gems of nature. Can't wait for my next trip with them!

Which I would recommend highly to anyone who wants to learn how to be safe on the mountain in winter conditions. My instructor Donny was excellent throughout and has a vast amount of experience. This allowed my three days to be tailored to fill in the gaps in my knowledge. A really enjoyable few days in the cairngorms which has given me the confidence to head out in winter conditions.
