The most complete winter progression
The 3-day format gives you the time that shorter courses can’t. Day 1 builds foundations; Day 2 consolidates with coached mileage; Day 3 is where you progress—longer journeys, complex route choice, and stronger judgment in real winter terrain.
Led by AMI-qualified professionals, this course is designed for those seeking total mountain self-sufficiency during the Scottish winter season.
Mastery Outcomes
- ✓ Steep Ground: Fluid movement on technical snow.
- ✓ Micro-Nav: Accurate navigation in “whiteout” conditions.
- ✓ Hazard ID: Deep avalanche & terrain assessment.
- ✓ Independence: Student-led legs for total autonomy.
Key Skills Mastery
Venues are always conditions-led, utilizing the Northern Corries and the high Cairngorm Plateau for authentic training.
Movement Mastery
Develop confident footwork, balance, and pacing for variable winter surfaces, including технічний steeper ground where appropriate.
Crampons & Axe
Refine step patterns, use the axe for stability, and master controlled ice axe arrest drills in diverse scenarios.
Advanced Nav
Micro-navigation, pacing, and relocation practice — building a process that works when the plateau goes into total whiteout.
Prepare for Mastery
Three days on the hill requires careful prep. You will need B2 or B3 boots, C2 crampons, and a walking axe. Not sure if your kit is ready?
