Why the Atlantic Coast?

The West Coast of Scotland is a landscape of sea lochs, white-sand bays, temperate rainforest and weather-shaped headlands. This trip gives you a real taste of wild camping where the mountains meet the ocean — dramatic enough to feel like an adventure, but short enough to work as an approachable introduction.

A learning environment, not just a route

We use Ardgour and the surrounding coastal fringes because they allow you to build confidence in a landscape that feels genuinely wild without requiring a major expedition. Along the way you’ll learn the foundations of movement, pack management, campsite choice and decision-making in exposed ground.

Our Mountain Leaders do more than guide from A to B. They help you understand how wind, terrain, weather and judgement shape a successful overnight trip in Scotland.

Optional kit hire

You do not need to own a full expedition setup to join. Optional hire bundles are available for people who want to try wild camping before investing in their own equipment.

  • Overnight Upgrade: 1-person mountain tent + sleep system
  • Wild Camp Essentials: tent + sleep system + stove kit
  • Pack-and-Go Bundle: full overnight setup + rucksack

Hire bundles start from £25 per person. Final options are arranged separately after booking.

The 2-day adventure

Day 1

Headlands, camp craft and the journey in

Meet at the agreed West Coast meeting point, sort equipment, and head into the coastal hills. As the day unfolds we cover pack setup, steady movement through rough ground, basic navigation awareness, and the practical decisions behind choosing a good overnight camp in Atlantic conditions.

Day 2

Coastal rims, confidence and return

After breakfast we explore more of the coast, focusing on simple route-finding, movement through broken ground, and the rhythm of a well-managed overnight trip before returning to the trailhead in the afternoon.
