Lake District classic ridges • Guided 2-day experience

Crinkle Crags — Classic Ridge Weekend (2 Days)

A rugged Langdale classic with a bigger mountain feel—two professionally led days on high ground, built around calm movement, good route choice, and confidence on steeper terrain.

Small groups (max 4 per guide) • Supportive pace • Conditions-led route choice • Ideal progression from hillwalking into scrambly terrain

  • 2 full mountain days
  • Confidence & movement skills
  • Strong alternatives built in
  • Professional leadership

A bigger-feel weekend in Langdale

Crinkle Crags and the surrounding high ground offer long ridgelines, steeper steps, and excellent terrain for building confidence. This weekend is run as a progression: day one establishes movement and decision-making; day two builds duration and complexity when conditions suit.

  • Calm coaching on real terrain
  • Hands-on movement where appropriate
  • Routes chosen for the day, not forced

Who this suits

Best for regular hill walkers with good fitness who want professional support on steeper ground. You don’t need climbing experience, but you should be comfortable with heights and narrow paths.

  • Full mountain days (typically 6–9 hours)
  • Steep, uneven terrain
  • A calm approach to exposure

Conditions-led: If wet rock, wind or visibility makes a ridge unsuitable, we select the best alternative objective to keep the weekend safe and rewarding.

Typical itinerary (2 days)

The exact lines depend on weather, underfoot conditions and the group. We choose the best objectives for learning value and a rewarding mountain day—without forcing a plan.

Day 1

High ground skills & confidence-building terrain

Movement, pacing and decision-making

We begin with classic Langdale high ground, selecting ridges and scrambly lines suited to the day. The focus is efficient movement, foot placement, and staying calm when the terrain steepens.

  • Footwork, balance and three points of contact
  • Reading the ground and choosing safe lines
  • Supportive pace with time for coaching
Good to know: Routes may change to suit wind, wet rock, visibility and the group.
Day 2

Progression day — longer, more sustained terrain

Building challenge when conditions allow

Day two builds on day one with longer ridges or more sustained ground, chosen to suit conditions and how the group is moving. The goal is confidence and competence—not box-ticking.

  • Strong route options with clear alternatives
  • Better judgement on exposure and terrain changes
  • A full mountain day regardless of conditions
Safety note: We will not take the group onto a route that isn’t sensible in the conditions. The guide’s decision is final where safety is concerned.
