Is this for me?

This two-day experience is designed for people who enjoy hillwalking and would like to feel more confident on ridges and exposed paths, with professional guidance throughout.

You don’t need scrambling experience or specialist skills. A reasonable level of fitness, a steady approach, and a willingness to engage with exposed terrain are far more important.

These are professionally led dates. The pace is supportive rather than rushed, with time to pause, discuss options, and build confidence as the two days progress.

  • Minimum age: 16+
  • You should be comfortable with heights and exposure
  • Good hill fitness required for full mountain days
  • If you’re unsure, a quick chat before booking is always welcome

The 2-day itinerary

The exact route is chosen on the day based on conditions and the group, but this is the usual shape of the weekend.

Day 1 — Helvellyn

We focus on confidence and movement on exposed ground, typically using Striding Edge and Swirral Edge. This is a great first day to settle into ridge terrain at a calm pace with plenty of time to pause and talk things through.

  • Ridge confidence & footwork
  • Pacing, balance and calm movement
  • Shared decision-making throughout

Day 2 — Blencathra

Day two builds on day one with more committing terrain. In good, dry conditions we may aim for Sharp Edge. If conditions aren’t suitable, Hall’s Fell Ridge provides an excellent alternative and still delivers a full, rewarding mountain day.

  • Progression to narrower ridge terrain
  • Careful route choice based on conditions
  • Options to match the group on the day

Route choice, conditions & leadership

Mountain terrain is shaped by weather and ground conditions, and flexibility is a key part of moving safely and enjoyably in the hills.

Throughout the two days we talk openly about route options and how conditions affect them. Route choices are made collectively, with guidance from your guide, taking into account the weather, the terrain, and how the group is moving.

This approach allows us to choose the most appropriate and enjoyable route on the day, rather than forcing an objective that doesn’t suit the conditions.

  • Safety and good judgement come first
  • Routes may change to suit weather or group movement
  • The guide’s decision is final where safety is concerned
  • The aim is confidence-building, not “do or die” objectives
