Our 4-day academy meets at the Tiso Store in Aviemore on Saturday morning. Using the Carrington Bothy as our tactical base, we spend four days progressing from foundational map work to complex relocation in the UK’s most challenging terrain.
This is our most comprehensive programme, designed for those who want to tackle the high plateau with absolute confidence, regardless of weather, visibility, or the time of day.

The 4-Day Academy Progression
Moving beyond the standard 2-day syllabus, this course adds layers of complexity, night work, and the logistical craft of mountain travel.
Days 1 & 2: Consolidation
Focusing on high-accuracy micro-navigation and plateau movement.
- Complex Landforms: Interpreting subtle plateau contours.
- Route Planning: Deep dive into weather theory and hazard ID.
- Precision: Fine-tuning pacing and timing in high winds.
- Night Session: Navigating by compass and feel after dark.
Days 3 & 4: Mastery & Wild Camp
Moving into total mountain self-sufficiency and camping craft.
- The Journey: A multi-day expedition across the plateau.
- Wild Camping: Pitching, water filtration, and hygiene.
- Autonomy: Student-led legs to prove relocation mastery.
- Logistics: Managing gear, food, and energy for 4 days.
