Guiding built around you
Private guiding gives you a flexible day in the mountains with an experienced instructor. You can arrive with a clear objective, or keep options open and choose the best route based on weather, ground conditions and the group. We focus on calm decision making, efficient systems and a high-quality day that matches your experience.
What guiding can include
- Hill and mountain days in Scotland and the Lake District
- Movement coaching and secure systems on steeper ground
- Roped terrain where appropriate to the objective and conditions
- Winter mountaineering days when conditions allow
- Multi-day plans: progression and consolidation
Ratios and group sizes
Ratio is selected to match terrain, conditions and the day’s objective. Technical, roped and winter days typically require lower ratios, while hill days and less technical objectives can suit larger groups.
If you’re unsure what’s appropriate, we’ll recommend the right ratio for your plan.
Year-round options
Choose a location, a theme or a style of day — we’ll match the objective to conditions and the group.
Mountain journeys
Classic routes, strong pacing and good judgement — ideal for confidence and capability.
Scrambling & ridges
Movement coaching and secure systems to help you feel solid on steeper ground.
Winter days
Objectives chosen to suit the day’s conditions — a practical, safety-led approach throughout.
Scottish classics and big days
If you have a specific objective in mind, we can plan around it. Final decisions are always conditions-based, with suitable alternatives ready if the weather or underfoot conditions change.
Classic ridges and traverses
-
Aonach Eagach Ridge (Glencoe)
Sustained Grade II knife-edge traverse with relentless exposure and limited escape options.
-
Liathach (Torridon)
Steep, rocky twin-Munro traverse with huge positions across the Torridon mountains.
-
An Teallach (NW Highlands)
Dramatic pinnacled ridge with a distinctive alpine feel, especially in winter.
-
Forcan Ridge (The Saddle, Glen Shiel)
Classic narrow ridge scramble with excellent movement and atmosphere.
Mountaineering lines and winter ridges
-
Curved Ridge (Buachaille Etive Mòr)
Steep, popular mountaineering line — a short, high-quality alpine-style day.
-
CMD Arête (Ben Nevis)
Spectacular airy approach, often Grade I in winter, finishing on the UK’s highest summit.
-
The Cuillin Ridge (Skye)
Complex alpine-style terrain planned carefully around conditions, daylight and team experience.
-
Pinnacle Ridge, Sgùrr nan Gillean (Skye)
Serious winter line (commonly Grade IV) requiring the right team and timing.
Some objectives are highly conditions-sensitive. We’ll advise on prerequisites and the most appropriate ratio for the day.
